Zags return to season-opening Buc Scoring at Whitworth
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's and men's track and field teams begin their 2019 outdoor schedules at the annual Buc Scoring Invite hosted by Whitworth University Saturday.

Buc Scoring Invite: For the 11th straight season, the Gonzaga women's and men's track and field programs will open their outdoor schedule at the Buc Scoring Invitational … This will be the first of three meets for the Bulldogs in Spokane … Gonzaga is at the Sam Adams Invite at Whitworth next week … Saturday's meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the women's discus … Running events start at 11:30 a.m. with the women's 5-kilometer run … Along with Gonzaga, Whitworth, Eastern Washington and Lewis-Clark State round out the field of entries.
Last season at the meet: Gonzaga swept the top six spots of the men's 5,000 meters led by Sumner Goodwin … He crossed the line at 14:54.07, edging out teammate Bennett Gagnon's time of 14:54.32. Peter Hogan (14:56.43), Scott Kopczynski (14:57.12) and Phillip Fishburn (14:57.36) were third, fourth and fifth … Kellen Manley paced a top-three sweep in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. He began his junior season with a 9:11.12 first place finish … Alex Heffelfinger (9:14.00) and Sammy Truax (9:19.04) were close behind in second and third … In the men's 1,500 meters, Brandon Pollard's time of 3:55.19 beat out the rest of the 16-runner field … Jordan Thurston placed second in the women's 5,000 meters. She opened her senior season with a time of 17:37.03 … Claren Fraher and Sarah Hawley were fourth and fifth in the women's 800 meters.

She crossed the line at 1:01.08 … Brianna Vasquez was close behind at 1:02.80 … Monica Ripple won the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:42.39.
