Zags complete first official regatta of the spring season

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's rowing team battled Oregon State Sunday morning on the Snake River in Pullman, Wash., in its first official 2k race of the season. The regatta, originally scheduled as a home event on Silver Lake, was relocated to the Snake River due to lingering weather conditions on the Zags home course.

The Beavers swept all four races, starting with the third varsity eight; Gonzaga trailed OSU by a little over 16 seconds, finishing with a time of 6:33.96. The second varsity eight boats followed with the Bulldogs finishing at 6:12.20, just over seven seconds back from the Beavers finish of 6:04.54. GU's varsity eight boat raced next, finishing 12 seconds behind OSU at 6:08.08, and the Bulldogs' novice eight finished in 6:28.39, four seconds behind the Beavers.

"A big thank you to Washington State for hosting the race," head men's rowing coach Dan Gehn said. "Our results were disappointing, but this is a good group and we will get faster with some more water time under our belt."

Gonzaga returns to the water March 30^th and 31^st as part of the Western Sprints Challenge, hosted by San Diego at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
