Women’s Tennis Sweeps San Francisco

Gonzaga didn’t drop a set across singles or doubles

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's tennis put together a complete match in a 4-0 win over San Francisco on Friday afternoon inside the Stevens Center.

Gonzaga (7-8, 2-2) had possibly its most dominating effort of the season, losing only a combined eight games across the two doubles matches and three singles matches that finished against the visiting Dons (9-6, 1-2).

"Coming back home after a long road trip was great for us," head coach D.J. Gurule said. "Our ladies just refocused and got the job done today. We are ready for what's next."

The Zags cruised through the doubles point, getting 6-1 victories on Courts 1 and 3 to clinch the point. The 21st-ranked duo of Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas won on No. 1 and Vlada Medvedcova and Dominique Garley won on No. 3.

In singles, Gonzaga won the first set on all six courts on the way to the sweep. Medvedcova had the most dominating victory, losing just one game in all in her 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Haruna Tsuruta was the next Zag to finish, grabbing a 6-2, 6-1 victory on No. 5, followed by the clinching match on No. 4 from Domonique Garley, 6-2, 6-0.

Gonzaga led by a set on all remaining courts with Whittle up 6-1, 5-0 on No. 1, Rosas led 6-4, 2-2 on No. 2, and Ketels was up 6-4, 4-5 on No. 6 when the match was clinched.

Gonzaga will be back on the road at No. 8 Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. Check GoZags.com for available links to live coverage.
