DAVIS, Calif. — Gonzaga men's tennis' road winning streak came to a tough end in a 4-3 loss at UC Davis on Sunday.
The Aggies (10-6) took the doubles point, and GU (12-6) split the singles matches in the dual, including four that went to a third set.
"We didn't perform as well today when needed," head coach
Jonas Piibor said. "We will use this one as extra fuel during next week in practice leading up to our match versus Pepperdine on Friday."
Trailing 2-0 after UCD took the doubles point and the first singles match to finish, Gonzaga tied the score with wins from
Hunter Egger and
Vincent Rettke. Egger won 7-5, 6-3 on No. 6, and then Rettke took a three-set win, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 on No. 4 to even the score.
Kyle Everly then momentarily put GU in the lead with his own three-set win on No. 3, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6, but the Aggies won in three sets on both No. 5 and No. 1 to claim the team victory.
Gonzaga comes back home for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday, hosting Pepperdine first at 1 p.m., and then LMU on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Stevens Center. Check GoZags.com for available links to live coverage.
