Men’s Tennis Takes 7-0 Sweep Over Idaho

GU won all singles matches in straight sets for third straight time

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's tennis continued its hot streak with its fourth win in a row in a 7-0 sweep over Idaho on Tuesday.

For the third straight match, Gonzaga (8-2) won every set on all six singles courts, collecting its third straight sweep in the process.

Gonzaga opened up the match with a strong effort in doubles play to take the point and a 1-0 lead over Idaho (3-5). The top duo of Sam Feit and Ruadhan O'Sullivan made quick work of the Vandals with a 6-2 victory. After Idaho took the match on No. 2, Gonzaga seized control on No. 3 with a 6-3 win by Simon Homedes Dualde and Emilio Moreno.

"Every match we have certain things we want to implement, and when we are able to accomplish that, the guys usually play pretty well," head coach Jonas Piibor said.

In singles, the Zags took the momentum and capitalized on it, winning all 12 sets across the six courts. Hunter Egger was the first to finish, taking a 6-3, 6-0 win on No. 5 to give GU a 2-0 lead.

Sam Feit was next, taking a 6-3, 6-3 win on No. 2 to set up the final point needed to clinch the victory. Moreno then stepped up for the fourth point for GU. He won 6-1, 6-2 on No. 6.

O'Sullivan added his own victory on No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win, while Kyle Everly won 7-6(9), 6-1 and Vincent Rettke took a 6-4, 6-3 win on No. 5.

The Zags will be back in action on Saturday, March 9, opening West Coast Conference action against No. 30 San Diego at Noon at the Stevens Center.
