Gonzaga Sweeps Portland, Drops Oregon Game
- GU took an important WCC road sweep at Portland last weekend, allowing three runs or less to the Pilots in each of the three games.
- On Monday, Gonzaga lost a 7-6 game to Oregon after taking a 6-2 lead into the eighth inning. The Ducks got a two-run homer in the eighth and a three-run homer in the ninth to win.
- Against Portland, Gonzaga had its biggest game of the year offensively, posting 19 runs in the Saturday game to win 9-3.
- On Sunday, GU earned a 4-3 extra-inning victory to defeat the three-time WCC Pitcher of the Week Chris Clements.
- The Zags got a huge week out of
Troy Johnston, who went 9-for-14 (.643) in the Portland series and earned the WCC Player of the Week honors.
Johnston Named WCC Player of the Week
- Junior outfielder
Troy Johnston hit .643 (9-for-14) in three games, collecting at least two hits in each game. He had four doubles, scored four times and knocked in two runs.
- On Friday, Johnston went 2-for-5 with a double and scored a run in GU's 4-2 series-opening win. Then on Saturday, he helped GU to a 19-3 win with three hits, including two doubles, three runs and an RBI. Then on Sunday in an 11-inning, 4-3 GU win, he went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
- For the week, he also had seven putouts in right field without an error and notched a slugging percentage of .929.
- Johnston's huge week moved him into the No. 1 spot nationally in doubles per game at 0.56, and third in total doubles with 18.
Jacob Has Done it All
- Gonzaga relief pitcher
Alek Jacob has been the jack of all trades for Gonzaga this season.
- Starting out the year as a starter, but converting to the closer due to need, he has racked up eight saves, leads the team with four wins, and has 53 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched.
- Jacob is holding opposing hitters to a .183 batting average and has a 1.81 ERA on the year.
Harris Breaks Out

Brett Harris had eight hits (.444) across four games two weeks ago and then added a three-run homer -- his first as a Zag -- against Pacific on Friday.
- Harris' biggest game came in the series finale against San Diego with two doubles, four RBI and two walks. He got the Gonzaga rally started in the ninth inning with the team down by three when he ripped a two-run double to left, and GU went on to win in walk-off fashion.
- He also had a 3-for-4 day in GU's midweek win over Washington with a double, RBI and run scored.
- Harris had one hit against San Diego on Friday, then had two and a run scored in a 15-3 win on Saturday.

- Gonzaga has played in five extra-inning games this season and is 4-1 overall.
- Gonzaga has won four of the last five games, and seven of the last 10
- GU is 5-3 at home and 11-9 in true road games.

Brett Harris have been the most clutch hitters for GU, with Nyquist going 14-for-35 (.400), Yake going 13-for-37 (.351) and Harris going 11-for-31 (.355) with runners in scoring position.
- Nyquist leads the way with 23 RBI on the season, while
Troy Johnston has 21 and five others have at least 15.

Freshman Wells into Starting Role

Mason Wells was moved into the Friday starting role as a freshman and has responded nicely.
- Wells has started five games and compiled a 3.89 earned-run average, while holding hitters to a .184 batting average.
- Wells went 7.0 innings at Portland last weekend, allowing just two runs on four hits with four strikeouts, to earn his first collegiate win.
Spellacy Rising

Michael Spellacy earned his first-career save with a perfect ninth inning against Washington in a 5-4 win.
- This past week, he was moved into a Saturday starting role at Portland and gave the Zags 6.0 innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits and striking out four with no walks.
- He pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless relief against Pacific, allowing just one base runner.
- Spellacy also went 5.0 innings of relief at Pepperdine on Saturday of that series, allowing just one run on four hits.
- Spellacy had a solid outing in his time on the mound at Texas A&M. In the second game of the series, he worked 3.2 shutout innings in relief.
Zags Walk Off to Series Win
- Gonzaga went 2-1 in a home series with San Diego, grabbing the finale with a three-run walk-off homer by
Daniel Fredrickson with two outs in the ninth inning.
- On Friday, Gonzaga scored two in the eighth to tie the score, but USD won with two runs in the 12th inning.
- The Zag offense broke out with a 15-3 victory on Saturday, led by four hits and five RBI from
Guthrie Morrison.
- Then on Sunday, Fredrickson's homer propelled GU to a win after USD had hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth to take a 9-6 lead. In the home half, GU scored two runs to put it at 9-8 with two outs and a pair of runners aboard for Fredrickson, who deposited his first homer since 2017 over the right field fence.
- Six Zags hit .300 or better in the series, led by Fredrickson's .444 (4-for-9) and Morrison's .429 (6-for-14) and both players had five RBI in three games.
