Former Zag Dominates NBC’s American Ninja Warrior Course

Sandy (Gere) Zimmerman became first mother to hit buzzer in 11-year history of show

TACOMA, Wash. – Former Gonzaga women's basketball player Sandy (Gere) Zimmerman made history for viewers of Monday night's episode of NBC's hit show American Ninja Warrior.

Zimmerman, a 42-year-old mother of three, became the first mother in the 11-year history of the show complete the course and hit the buzzer. She was also the first female this season to make it through the obstacles and finish the course. The Spokane native and resident played basketball for the Zags from 1994-98.

Competing inside the Tacoma Dome in the regional competition on Mother's Day weekend, she conquered the course during the show's first-ever taping in the Pacific Northwest.

Zimmerman's American Ninja Warrior journey will continue in the upcoming Seattle/ Tacoma city finals episode that airs Aug. 12.
