SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's soccer team won their second straight game in the final seconds, 2-1, over Colorado State Friday.
The Zags (2-1-0) have played four games this season, including their exhibition, and all four have been decided in the final 10 seconds.
In the fourth minute, GU's
Lauren Elwer drove in a rebound off an
Erin Healy shot that was saved in the box. It was Elwer's second goal, three games into her freshman season.
The Rams' Gracie Armstrong scored the tying goal in the 82
nd minute, with an assist from Ally Murphy-Pauletto.
With just six seconds left in regulation, Elwer crossed a ball into the CSU box, it deflected off of a Rams' defender and ended up in the back of the net.
The Bulldogs outshot Colorado State, 16-10, forcing the Rams' Gabi McDonald into nine saves. GU finished with 11 shots on goal, while CSU (2-1-0) had three.
Isabel Jones and
Lyza Bosselmann both made one save each in the Zag net. Healy took a game-high five shots, placing four on frame.
Gonzaga welcomes Montana Sunday at 1 p.m. The Grizzlies (0-0-2) are unbeaten so far this season, but play at No. 23 Washington State Friday.
