Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, VA – The Gonzaga volleyball team picked up wins against both UConn and Navy Friday at the Service Academy Challenge on site at the Pentagon.
The Zags swept UConn 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-21) and edged Navy in four sets (25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 27-25) to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2016.
"This team was resilient when rallies got long," head volleyball coach
Diane Nelson said. "We stayed aggressive, and in the end, we played scrappy defense. We are living out our team values. Commitment to the process and going all out for each other has been a consistent theme for us. Our student-athletes are driving it all.
Sarah Penner was outstanding for us today all the way around. They could not slow her down."
Gonzaga (2-0) continues play Saturday, Aug. 31 against Air Force at 9 a.m.
