Gonzaga won 10 of 12 singles matches and five of six doubles matches
CHENEY, Wash. – Gonzaga men's tennis was able to win 15 of 18 matches between singles and doubles on the day at the EWU Fall Classic in Cheney, Wash.
Facing opponents from Idaho and Eastern Washington, all 12 GU players saw action in both singles and doubles with the Zags winning 10 of 12 singles matches and five of six doubles matches.
"It was the first college match for five guys and it showed, but it was better energy and effort than execution," head coach Jonas Piibor said. "We have more matches tomorrow and Sunday, and I'm looking for consistent improvement and maturity from the young lads. In doubles, we have to be much more aggressive."
Sam Feit cruised in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Simon Homedes Dualde won 6-4, 7-5 and Hunter Egger took a 7-6(7), 6-3 win. GU freshmen Brandon Park (6-2, 6-4), Eric Hadigian (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Matthew Hollingworth (6-1, 6-3) each collected their first-career wins.
Kyle Everly added a 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-2 win, while Matthew Perkins won 7-5, 6-1 and transfer Theo McDonald got his first win as a Zag, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles, the GU duos of Egger/Vincent Rettke and McDonald/Hollingworth each collected 8-2 victories. Park and Homedes took an 8-3 win, Feit and Oliver Andersson teamed up for an 8-5 win, and Perkins and Bryan Husin won 8-6.
Gonzaga will be back on the courts in Cheney, Wash., on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. at the EWU Fall Classic.
