SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's and men's track and field teams will send 28 student-athletes to compete in six events at the University of Washington Indoor Preview Saturday.
The Zags return to the annual meet inside the Dempsey Center on the UW campus. Multiple Top-10 program times have been run at the meet, including Morgan Green setting the women's 600-meter record (1:38.90) last season.
Last year, In the men's mile,
Brandon Pollard won his heat with a time of 4:05.68, which is the second-fastest indoor mile in program history. He placed sixth overall, with the second-fastest collegiate finish.
Jordan McPhee ran the sixth-fastest indoor mile in women's program history at 5:09.04.
Ally Legard followed close behind at 5:10.37, which was the ninth-fastest time in GU history.
Greene and Legard return to those respective races this weekend.
In the women's 3,000 meters,
Claire Manley's 10:04.50 finish ranks eighth all-time at Gonzaga, while
Aimee Piercy's 10:08.06 time is now 10th.
In the season-opening meet last week, Piercy broke the women's 800-meter program record at the Vandal Open in Moscow, Idaho. Piercy placed third in the 800 meters at 2:15.78. She broke Jordan McCann's six-year old record of 2:16.66. Piercy also ran the second-fastest indoor mile in program history, crossing the line in first with a time of 4:59.33.
Dominic Arce cruised to the men's 3,000-meter title inside the Kibbie Dome with a time of 8:29.83. Legard finished right behind Piercy in the mile with a time of 5:08.89 in second. In the men's mile,
Cobie Chavez-Killinger placed third. The transfer made his debut for the Zags with a time of 4:19.80.
Four Bulldogs open the meet for GU in the women's mile at 11:35 a.m. The men's mile follows at 12:10 p.m., and will include five Zags.
