SPOKANE, Wash. – No. 1/2 Gonzaga and No. 15/15 West Virginia will square off in the 2020 Jimmy V Classic in Indianapolis on Dec. 2.
West Virginia replaces No. 12/14 Tennessee, which withdrew Tuesday due to COVID protocols.
ESPN will produce and broadcast the game on ESPN at 4 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will be played in the Bankers Life Field House, the same location where the Zags are scheduled to play No. 2/1 Baylor on Dec. 5.
Baylor and No. 8/10 Illinois will follow in Game 2 of the Jimmy V Classic at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. There will be no spectators in attendance at either of the events.
This is the fifth all-time meeting between Gonzaga and West Virginia. The Zags have won all four previous matchups. GU won the first-ever meeting, 77-54, in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Bulldogs won the latest meeting, a 61-58 thriller in the Sweet 16 of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
It will be Gonzaga's second matchup with a member from the Big 12 Conference this season, after the Zags open the season versus No. 6/5 Kansas. The Bulldogs are 20-9 against current Big 12 members.
The Bulldogs have played in the Jimmy V Classic twice before, a 69-60 win over No. 25 North Carolina State, in East Rutherford, N.J., on Dec. 17, 2002, and an 88-72 loss to Villanova on Dec. 5, 2017, in New York City.
