No. 3/4 Zags Host Saint Mary’s in Regular Season Finale

Bulldogs have won a national best 38 straight games at home

THE TIP OFF:
- Gonzaga and Saint Mary's meet for the 102nd time on Saturday in Spokane, at 7 p.m. The Zags have a 70-31 advantage in the series.
- GU has won 16 of the last 20 meetings, and is 44-11 against SMC under Mark Few.
- Gonzaga is 30-11 all-time at home against SMC. GU is 13-4 in the meetings in the McCarthey Athletic Center.
- The Zags won the first meeting earlier this season at SMC, 90-60. Drew Timme led GU with 20 points.
- The Zags are coming off of a 94-59 win over San Diego Thursday. Filip Petrusev had 21 points and nine rebounds.
- The Bulldogs have clinched the 2019-20 West Coast Conference regular season outright. Its their eighth straight regular season title and 23rd overall in program history.
- Gonzaga also clinched the top seed in the 2020 West Coast Conference Tournament for the 19th time in program history. GU is 37-6 in the event as the one-seed.
- GU's 38 straight wins at home is the longest active streak in the nation, and third longest in program history.
- The Zags are the lone team in the nation to have six players averaging double-digit scoring per game, with a seventh scoring 9.8 points per outing.
- Killian Tillie is 18 points away from 1,000 in his career.
- The Bulldogs are first in the nation in scoring offense (87.8), scoring margin (20.8), second in field goal percentage (51.3), third in total assists (515), fourth in rebound margin (9.2) and total rebounds (1,217), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.51), seventh in assists per game (17.2), and eighth in three-point percentage (38.7).


SERIES NOTES:
- This is the 102nd all-time meeting between Gonzaga and Saint Mary's.
- GU leads the series 70-31, winning 16 of the last 20 meetings, and is 44-11 against SMC under Mark Few.
- Gonzaga is 30-11 all-time at home against SMC. GU is 13-4 in the meetings in the McCarthey Athletic Center.
- In the meeting earlier the season in Moraga, GU won 90-60. Drew Timme scored 20 points and Gonzaga made 14 of its first 15 shots.
- The Zags are 25-18 all-time at Saint Mary's.
- The last 11 WCC Tournament titles have been won by either Gonzaga or SMC. GU has eight of those 11 titles.
- The Zags are 13-4 against SMC in the West Coast Conference Tournament, winning four of the last five meetings in the event. The teams have met in the tournament nine of the past 11 years.
- The Zags won the first all-time meeting between the programs, 86-84, in Moraga on Dec. 23, 1971.
 
SCOUTING THE GAELS:
- Saint Mary's held off Santa Clara on the road Thursday, 78-72. Jordan Ford played all 40 minutes and scored a game-high 33 points and four assists. Malik Fitts and Dan Fotu added 14 and 13 points. Tanner Krebs had 11 rebounds.
- Ford leads the conference averaging 20.9 points per outing. He leads the country in minutes played (1128:44).
- Fitts is fourth in the WCC at 16.97 points per game and sixth grabbing 7.23 rebounds.
- The Gaels are third in the nation shooting 40.4 from behind-the-arc, and fourth averaging only 9.8 turnovers per game.
 
A ZAG WIN WOULD ...
- Improve the nation's current longest home win streak to 39.
- Extend the Bulldogs' conference home win streak to 21.
- Be the 35th straight win over an unranked team at home.
- Improve Mark Few's record in February to 145-23.
 
AN IMPRESSIVE REGULAR SEASON:
- A GU win Saturday, would be the sixth time in program history that the Bulldogs finish with two
or less losses in the regular season since the program joined the NCAA in
1958-59. All six would have come under Mark Few.
- It would also be the 12th time Gonzaga would have one or less losses in WCC, again all under Head Coach Mark Few.
 
THAT'S EIGHT STRAIGHT:
- Gonzaga's home win over San Diego clinched the 2019-20 West Coast Conference regular season title outright.
- The Zags have won the West Coast Conference regular season title in each of the last eight seasons, seven times winning it outright.
- GU extended its current nationally-best active streak of regular season titles, owned or shared.
- Bucknell at five straight is the second-longest active streak entering this season (Patriot League), but Bucknell has already been eliminated from winning its regular-season conference title this year. Nevada and Vermont were next on the list (three straight each entering this year).
- The Bulldogs have won 21 of the last 23 WCC regular season championships, 18 of which have been won outright.
- The home win over USF also gave the Bulldogs three byes to the semifinal round of the West Coast Conference Tournament in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on March 9.
- Gonzaga has won in the WCC tournament semifinals in each of the past 22 years. The Zags last loss in the WCC semifinals was 1994, 83-75, to San Diego in Santa Clara.
