WBB: Laura Stockton Signs Professional Contract Overseas

Stockton headed to Germany for 2020-21 season

SPOKANE, Wash. – Former Gonzaga women's basketball player Laura Stockton will continue her basketball career overseas as she has signed a professional contract for the 2020-21 season.

Stockton will play for Herner TC out of the Damen Basketball Bundesliga, the premier women's basketball league in Germany. Located in Herne, Germany, Herner TC finished third in the league standings for the 2019-20 season after averaging 62.8 points, 31.8 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game. This will be Stockton's first professional contract after sitting out the 2019-20 season following a season-ending injury at the West Coast Conference Championships in 2019.

"I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to further my basketball career playing in Germany for Herner TC," Stockton said. "I want to thank all of my coaches, teammates and support staff for all they have done to prepare me for this moment, and all the doctors and physical therapists who have helped me get back on the court. I would also like to give a special thank you to my strength coach, Mike Nilson, not only for getting me back to full strength, but for his unwavering support and wisdom throughout my recovery. I am so thankful for my four years at Gonzaga, and I am looking forward to taking this next step."

Stockton concluded her four-year career with Gonzaga in 2019. The Spokane, Wash., native finished her career with 459 assists to rank third all-time in career assists, and she also claims the top spot in single season free throw percentage at 89.2 percent (2018-19). Stockton led the Zags in assists each of her final three seasons, and she was selected as All-WCC First Team, All-WCC Honorable Mention and WCC All-Tournament during her career. She helped Gonzaga to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, along with collecting three WCC Regular-Season titles and two WCC Tournament titles.

"I am so happy for Laura," head women's basketball coach Lisa Fortier said. "It was really hard to watch her suffer an injury at the end of her college career, but I never doubted that she would be back better than ever. She has continued to work over the past year, and her club is going to be very happy with her. She is a competitor and a winner, and she always finds a way. I can't wait to follow her pro career."
