LAHAINA, Hawaii — The Gonzaga men's golf team placed 11th at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on the island of Maui. The tournament was played at Ka'anapali's Royal Golf Course and was hosted by the University of Hawaii.
As a team, the Zags shot 13-over (865) in what was their final event of the fall season. In Sunday's final round, they shot seven-over (291). The Bulldogs finished the tournament with 163 pars.
Senior Charlie Magruder shot even par (71) in Round 3, totaling a score even par (213) overall. He made 10 pars and four birdies in the final round and finished in a tie for 39th. Teammate Jace Minni turned in a score of one-over (72) on Sunday, finishing two-over (215) for the tournament and in a tie for 46th.
Zach Stocker tied for 52nd, after completing his third round one-over (72). Matthew Ruel shot five-over (76), making 13 pars which brought his total to 39, the third most of any individual in the field. Andrew Reinhardt (+29, 242) finished in 79th.
The team title went to the University of Kansas, who finished 52-under (800), winning by 20 strokes over the University of Colorado (-32, 820). Brandon Berry of Loyola Maryland won the individual title, finishing 16-under (197) and edging out Carson Griggs (-15, 198) from the University of Denver by one stroke.
The Zags are now finished with their three-event fall season. They will be back on the course in late February at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
