SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team defeated Central Washington University in the lone exhibition game of the season, 78-42, in McCarthey Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Kayleigh Truong led the team with 14 points and senior
Melody Kempton pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.
The Zags led the whole game and had 46 points come off the bench, 42 in the paint and another 26 off turnovers.
Gonzaga opened the game by going on a 24-0 run. They did not allow any scoring from CWU until 50 seconds were left in the first quarter. Overall, GU held the Wildcats to a 5.8 percent shooting percentage in the first frame.
The Bulldogs were also aggressive on the boards as they outrebounded Central Washington, 54-22.
In her debut at GU, freshman
Bree Salenbien scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, recorded three assists, and had one steal in just 16 minutes of play.
Defensively, the Zags caused 18 turnovers and had 10 steals. GU also held CWU to a 26.3 shooting percentage and only 25 percent from beyond the arc.
CWU's Tori Maeda led the Wildcats with 10 points as she scored two three-pointers in her 30 minutes of play.
Overall, Gonzaga shot at 47.6 percent and scored four three-pointers throughout the contest.
Kayleigh Truong scored two from beyond the arc, which led the team.

The Zags open up the regular season at home next Thursday, Nov. 11, against Montana State. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. The Bobcats will be coming off a game against Carroll College on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
