SPOKANE, Wash. – In the first game back home since Nov. 21, the Gonzaga women's basketball team defeated Wyoming, 54-47.
Three Zags scored in double digits, including senior
Melody Kempton with 13 points, six rebounds and a career-high four blocks. Junior
Kaylynne Truong scored 11 with five assists and sophomore
Yvonne Ejim recorded 10 points and five rebounds.
Kempton got the Zags on the board to tie the game at 2-2 with six minutes left in the first. The Bulldogs then went on a 6-0 run to take an early lead over the Cowgirls. Ejim closed out the quarter with a last-second jumper to take a 14-6 lead after ten minutes.

Abby O'Connor led the team in the first with four points each as the Zags shot at a 54.5 percent from the field. The team also forced six turnovers and scored another six points off those.
In the second quarter, Wyoming went on a 9-0 run to take a one-point lead with five minutes remaining in the half. The Zags responded with a jumper and a three-pointer from
Kaylynne Truong to take the lead back before Wyoming drained another three to regain the lead.
After a pair of free throws and a second-chance layup from Ejim, the Bulldogs claimed the lead back at 25-20 going into the locker rooms at halftime.
Coming into the third quarter, the Cowgirls went on a 9-0 run to get within four points of the Zags. Sophomore
Eliza Hollingsworth made a jumper for the Bulldogs with less than a minute remaining in the quarter to extend GU's lead to 37-31 after three frames.
Kempton led the team with six points and two rebounds in the third quarter. Ten points come from inside the paint as Gonzaga went 6-for-15 from the field.
Gonzaga's defense came in clutch to close out the fourth quarter and forced six turnovers. Senior
Cierra Walker scored five points in the final quarter as she went 100 percent from the field and the charity stripe.
Overall, the Zags forced 20 turnovers and scored 24 points off those. The team scored 30 points from inside the paint and had 12 points come from off the bench. The Cowgirls outrebounded GU 31-29 as Gonzaga recorded six blocks, four of those coming from Kempton.
Records: The Zags move to 7-1 overall and Wyoming falls to 3-4 on the season.
This was the third game this season that GU held its opponents to 50 points or less this season.
