SPOKANE, Wash.- The Gonzaga men's tennis team extended its win streak to four games and remain undefeated (4-0) on the season with a clean 7-0 sweep win against Seattle Saturday afternoon inside the Stevens Center. This was the Redhawks first match of the season.

The Zags overcame a slow start, falling behind on all three courts in doubles play, but on each court, the Zags persevered for the come-from-behind wins on each court.
Matthew Hollingworth and
Sasha Trkulja were the first to secure a victory with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Court two finished next with
Oliver Andersson and
Leon Roider winning 6-4 against Emilio Monroy and Billy Givens-Jensen. While the Zags had already taken the doubles point,
Matthew Perkins and Pablo Gomez played out at No. 3 doubles and came back from a 4-5 setback to win the set 7-6 (9-7) in tie break.

"We have a lot of room for improvement, especially in the doubles area, and it will continue to be an emphasis of ours over the next week," said Head Coach
Jonas Piibor.

In singles play,
Theo McDonald was the first to win for the Zags with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court five.

"I thought all the boys showed up with great energy," McDonald said. "It was good to get out and play a very solid team, and it was great to get another home win.".

Court six was next to win for the Zags when Gomez defeated Lars Schmassmann 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 to secure GU's second singles win, while Trkulja gave the Bulldogs their fourth point, beating Lucas Cerbelli 6-1, 6-1. The Zags secured wins on the final three courts, as Andersson won 6-4, 6-0 followed by Hollingworth on court one with a 6-2,6-4 victory and Roider pulled out the win on court four winning 6-1, 7-5.

"I think Seattle U competed well, and I think we played pretty solid in singles overall." said Piibor.
