SPOKANE, Wash.- San Francisco held off Gonzaga men's soccer 1-0 in the West Coast Conference opener for both programs Sunday.
The Dons' (2-2, 1-0 West Coast Conference) Rodrigo Bueno scored his second goal of the season in the 27th minute. Nonso Adimabua found Bueno off of a free kick and Neto struck it into the net from distance.
Gonzaga outshot USF, 23-10, and had a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs (1-4, 0-1 WCC) held the possession for 56 percent of the match. GU took nine corner kicks to San Francisco's four.
The Zags' Demitrius Kigeya took a game-high 11 shots, placing four on frame. Neto led the Dons with four shots, three on goal.
Gonzaga's goalkeeper Johan Garibay made five saves. San Francisco's Brandon Keniston played the first half and had two saves, while their second half goalkeeper Alejandro Munoz had five.
