SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's team closed the regular season by cruising to a 3-0 win over Pepperdine Saturday at Luger Field.
The Zags wrapped up the regular season at 7-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in West Coast Conference play. GU defeated Pepperdine for the first time since 2010, and sixth time in program history. During Saturday's win, the Bulldogs scored on Pepperdine (6-5-1, 5-3-1 WCC) for the first time since 2014.
The Zags jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the eighth minute off of
Sydni Burrup's second goal of the season.
Maddie Kemp was credited with the assist. Just before halftime in the 40th minute,
Alaysia Lane and
Lauren Elwer assisted
Kate Doyle for the Zags' second goal of the game. In the second half, Kemp scored a goal assisted by Burrup on a corner kick in the 54th minute.
The Waves outshot Gonzaga, 13-8, but the Zags had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Pepperdine's Joelle Anderson took a match-high six shots, while Kemp led GU with three shots. The Bulldogs had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Gonzaga held possession for 52 percent of the game, with 54 percent of that on the attacking side of the field.
