Braun Named Scholar All-West Region

Zag junior receives academic honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Gonzaga's Sophia Braun was named to the 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-West Region Second Team. The junior from Beaverton, Ore., is majoring in Computer Science and boasts a 3.86 GPA.
 
Braun helped lead a solid Zag midfield in her nine appearances. She found the back of the net against Saint Mary's. The Beaverton, Ore., native, had the unique experience of playing for Argentina's national team in the She Believes Cup in Orlando, Fla.
 
Braun has been nominated for All-WCC Academic honors this season, and was named honorable mention Academic All-Conference in 2019.
 
Braun becomes the second Bulldog to receive Scholar All-West Region honors. Madeline Gotta earned the accolade in 2019.
 
To be eligible for Scholar All-Region recognition, student-athletes must meet the following criteria:
  • 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
  • Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school
