HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Gonzaga women's soccer team cruised to a 7-0 victory at Portland State Sunday. The seven goals match the third-most in a single game in GU program history.
 
The Zags' (3-1-0) seven goals were also the most in a single game since a program-record 10-0 win over Whitman in 2000. GU had a 10-1 win over Eastern Washington in 1998, and beat Whitman, 7-0, in 1997.
 
Gonzaga dominated Sunday's match, outshooting PSU, 29-6, and owning a 19-2 advantage in shots on goal. The 29 shots were the most by a Bulldog squad since taking 31 against Cal Poly in 2017. GU held possession for 66 percent of the match. Seventy-eight percent of the Bulldogs' possession was on the attacking side of the field. Gonzaga had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks as well.
 
The Zags' Maddie Kemp scored twice and recorded an assist, while Marissa Garcia and Lauren Elwer each had a goal and an assist. Kemp finished the match with nine shots, the most by a GU player in a single game since Sarah Rhodes had 10 versus San Francisco in 2011.
 
Garcia opened the scoring in the 24th minute. The freshman found the back of the net for the third time already this season. Kemp was credited with her third assist of the season on the goal. Gonzaga scored two goals in the final minute of the first half, the first a Jordan Thompson penalty kick, and then another just 21 seconds later from Elwer. Darcy Woodward and Madison Mufich had assists on Elwer's first goal of the season.
 
The Bulldogs had 14 shots to Portland State's two in the first 45 minutes. GU placed 11 shots on frame, while the Vikings had zero.
 
In the 56th minute, Garcia received an assist on Haley Archuleta's first goal of the season. Kemp would then score goals in the 58th and 59th minute. Her first was unassisted, and the second had an assist from Elwer. Kemp now has three goals this season. Hannah Hale and Kelsey Oyler connected for the seventh goal of the game in the 84th minute. Oyler's second assist of the season came on Hale's first goal of the season.
 
Lyza Bosselmann, Lauren Towne and Shyh Saenz all played in the GU net. Towne and Saenz both made a save. Enya Hernandez had six saves for PSU (1-2-0).
 
Gonzaga returns home for back-to-back matches against Hawaii and Montana on Thursday and Sept. 5. The game versus Hawaii (0-0-1) is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on Luger Field. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
