Gonzaga Breaks Program Record with Eighth Straight Win

Zags shutout Omaha, 1-0, to close non-conference play

SPOKANE, Wash. — No. 20 Gonzaga women's soccer set a new program record with its eighth consecutive victory Saturday, shutting out Omaha 1-0. It was the Zags first game as a nationally ranked team in 16 years.

The Bulldogs closed their non-conference schedule with a 10-1-0 record. GU matched the program record for assists in a single season, recording their 29th and 30th assists in the win Saturday.

Gonzaga's Maddie Kemp and Erin Healy were both credited with assists on Kelsey Oyler's game-winning goal in the 65th minute.  Oyler curled in a shot to the far post for her fourth goal of the season. It was Kemp's fourth assist, and Healy's first. Kemp entered the game leading the conference in total points, and now has 20 this season, which ranks sixth in program history.

The Bulldogs outshot Omaha 16-5, placing eight shots on goal. GU also had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. The Zags controlled 58 percent of the possession in the match.

Gonzaga's defense posted its eighth shutout of the season. Bosselmann made two saves for the Bulldogs, while Rachel Thigpen made five saves for the Mavericks (3-4-2).

The Zags start West Coast Conference play next Saturday in Spokane against BYU (5-3-1) at 7 p.m. The Cougars are receiving votes in the national poll.
