SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga track and field wrapped up day two of the Cougar Classic at The Podium with a flurry of record book entries, highlighted by facility records from Alicia Anderson and Elisabeth Danis in the mile and Dominic Arce in the 3000m. Seven Zags finished with times that ranked in the top ten of their respective events and ten finished in the top five to go with three event wins.
Anderson (4:54.63) and Danis (5:00.52) both surpassed the previous facility mark of 5:02.75 in taking first and third place in the mile on Saturday, securing new personal bests with the second- and fourth-fastest indoor times in program history. Kate Donaldson (5:08.30), Makenna Edwards (5:09.22), Liz Hogan (5:09.87) and Brittney Hansen (5:11.03) made it six Zags in the event's top ten.
Arce's 8:18.2 first-place finish in the 3000m generated another facility record for GU, ranking as the tenth-fastest time in program history. Six other Zags finished in succession behind him to place seven in the event's top ten – Cooper Laird (8:24.86), Riley Moore (8:26.31), Jackson Lyne (8:27.59), Bryce Cerkowniak (8:27.71), Kyle Radosevich (8:28.91) and Carpenter Mukai (8:36.51). Cullen McEachern led GU in the mile with a 4:14.62 finish, good for seventh.
The Zag women's dominance in distance began on Friday with a win in the Distance Medley Relay, with Anderson, Ellie Armbruster, Morgan Greene and Jillian Greene combining for a program record of 11:54.69. GU's second relay team, comprised of Leighton Joy, Elizabeth Brands, Emma Flood and Liz Hogan took third with a time of 12:40.53. In the 800m race, Jillian Greene and Morgan Greene placed third and fourth respectively, finishing with the second- and fourth-fastest times in program history in the process. Just behind them, Alyssa Bienfang (Seventh, 2:18.21) also entered the GU record book with the sixth-fastest finish ever.
Gonzaga's indoor season continues Jan. 21-22, with the Zags' women's squad headed to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. GU's men's runners return to action the following weekend at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
