PROVO, Utah — Despite a bounceback effort in the third set, Gonzaga volleyball fell in three to No. 17 BYU at Smith Fieldhouse on Thursday evening, unable to overcome a dominant 22-kill performance from the Cougar's Erin Livingston.
Zoe Thiros led the Bulldogs (5-17, 1-10 WCC) in kills for the fourth-straight game with 10, with McKenna Marshall adding six and Autumn Larson supplying four more. Dani Batenhorst supplied two of GU's three aces, which outpaced the Cougars' two. Keau Kamake'eaina led the Zags in digs with seven while producing 17 of GU's 20 assists in the process.
Livingston produced 14 kills over the first two sets while BYU's offense was firing on all cylinders, with the Cougars hitting .609 in the first and .423 in the second en route to 25-10 and 25-14 set wins. The Bulldogs found some momentum in the third — where they hit .263 and connected on 14 aces — taking a 15-12 lead on a 4-0 run that saw a pair of kills from Thiros. But the Cougars closed out strong to secure the sweep and snap a two-game losing streak, scoring six of the final eight with three GU attack errors and two more kills from Livingston.
