LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team closed out the 2022 season at Loyola Marymount University and fell, 3-0.
The Lions got on the board in the 22nd minute with a goal from CJ Neville and assisted by Noel Caliskan. LMU's second goal also came in the first half in the 43rd minute as Anthony Wilson scored with assists coming from Marco Byers-Mora and Caliskan.
At the half, the Bulldogs were down 2-0, but kept it even at shots taken with 10 from both teams.
The third goal from Loyola Marymount was in the second half in the 68th minute when Caliskan drew a penalty kick. He was able to score for the Lions to make it 3-0.
Overall,
Johan Garibay made eight saves on the night. Gonzaga took 11 shots, led by Logan Dorsey and
Demitrius Kigeya both taking three. Wylie Trujillo, plus Kigeya and Dorsey all took a shot on goal to total GU's three of the night.
LMU took 25 shots in the contest with 12 of those on goal. The Lions also had nine corner kicks compared to GU's one. The Zags kept possession for 43 percent of the game as LMU had it for the other 57 percent.
Records: The Zags finish the season at 4-11-3 overall and 0-4-3 in the conference. LMU move to 9-6-3 overall and 3-3-1 in the WCC.
Goalkeeper
Johan Garibay finishes the season at the top of the West Coast Conference with 72 saves. In his career, he has made 246 saves, which puts him third of all-time in GU history.
Demitrius Kigeya also ends the season in the top five in assists and shots in the WCC. His 169 career shots place him third all-time at Gonzaga.
