THE TIP OFF
- Gonzaga travels to No. 12/12 Texas for a mid-week Top-15 clash in Austin Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time. It's the fifth all-time meeting between the programs, but the first at Texas.
- This GU's first true road non-conference game since winning at No. 15 Arizona, 84-80, on Dec. 14, 2019. The Zags have won four of their last five true road non-conference games, and seven of their last 10.
- Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, Gonzaga's 83.3 win percentage (100-20) in true road games tops the nation, with Wichita State second at 73.1 percent. Since 2016-17, the Zags are 51-4 (92.7) in true road games, and 22-2 (91.7) over the past three seasons. Since March 2016, Gonzaga is 27-11 vs. ranked opponents.
- The top-ranked Bulldogs beat No. 5 Texas last season in Spokane, 86-74. GU led for 39 minutes and by as many as 22 points. Drew Timme scored a career-high 37 points in nearly 38 minutes with seven rebounds.
- Gonzaga is coming off a 64-63 victory over Michigan State Friday in the 2022 Armed Forces Classic Carrier Edition on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in San Diego, Calif. Drew Timme had 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Zags rallied from a 12-point second half deficit and MSU led 38-31 at halftime.
 
SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
- Texas opened the season with a pair of wins over UTEP (72-57) and Houston Christian (82-31).
- Against Houston Christian Friday, six Longhorns finished in double-figure scoring with Marcus Carr and Sir'Jabari Rice both scoring 11. Dillon Mitchell (10 pts, 12 rbs) and Timmy Allen (10 pts and 10 rbs) both recorded double-doubles. Carr had four steals.
- Texas returns five rotational players from the 2021-22 season. Three of the five returning rotation players earned All-Big 12 Conference recognition last year, including Timmy Allen (second team), Marcus Carr (third team) and Christian Bishop (honorable mention).
- The Longhorns add a pair of transfers in Tyrese Hunter (Iowa State) and Sir'Jabari Rice (New Mexico State).
- Texas also welcomes a four-man freshman class that is ranked as the No. 5 recruiting class in the country by Rivals and 247 Sports, featuring a pair of McDonald's All-Americans in Dillon Mitchell and Arterio Morris.
- Tyrese Hunter is one of 20 preseason watch list candidates for the Bob Cousy Award (nation's top point guard) and Timmy Allen is one of 20 preseason watch list candidates for the Julius Erving Award (nation's top small forward).
- A trio of Texas players were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Awards teams. Timmy Allen and Marcus Carr were both tabbed to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, while Tyrese Hunter was named Preseason Honorable Mention All-Big 12.
- The Longhorns were picked to finish third in the league's preseason coaches' poll.

- Gonzaga and Texas meet for the fifth time, and the first in Austin. The Zags have won all four of the previous matchups.
- Last season in Spokane, No. 1 GU topped No. 5 Texas, 86-74, in the first-ever Top-5 matchup in the McCarthey Athletic Center. Drew Timme scored a career-high 37 points on 15-of-19 shooting from the field in 38 minutes. Rasir Bolton added 16 points and Anton Watson had 10 points, while Timmy Allen led Texas with 18 points.

GONZAGA WINS ARMED FORCES CLASSIC
- Drew Timme had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and led No. 2 Gonzaga in a spirited comeback from a 12-point deficit that carried the Bulldogs to a 64-63 victory over Michigan State on the flight deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln at North Island Naval Air Station.
- Strawther had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Nolan Hickman scored 10.
- Michigan State led 38-31 at halftime and 45-33 with 16:12 left in regulation.
 
UP NEXT
- Gonzaga and No. 4 Kentucky square off in the Spokane Arena Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
- The programs have previously only met once when the Wildcats beat Gonzaga 80-72 in the 2002 Maui Invitational.
- It will mark the second time the Zags have played an SEC team in Spokane, after beating Texas A&M at GU, 94-71, on Nov. 15, 2018.
