WBB Rallies at Wyoming, 66-64

Yvonne Ejim paved the way with a career-high 26 points

LARAMIE, Wyoming – Led by a career night of 26 points from Yvonne Ejim, the Gonzaga women's basketball team came out with a 66-64 win over the University of Wyoming.
The game saw 12 lead changes and was tied at six different points throughout the contest. The game was tied 64-64 with 20 seconds remaining with the Zags in possession. Ejim called the game with a bucket inside the paint to put Gonzaga up 66-64 with ten seconds left. The Cowgirls took one more shot in the game, but Ejim also grabbed the rebound from the missed shot to secure the win for GU. Kayleigh Truong was the other Zag to score in double figures with 14, as six of those came in the third quarter.
   In the first quarter, the Zags got off to an initial 8-2 run in the first four minutes of the quarter, with six of the points scored by Ejim. Gonzaga shot 46.7 percent from the field and 25 percent from three to go up 15-14 in the opening quarter. GU held the Cowgirls to only 42.9 percent shooting from the field and forced two turnovers in the first quarter.   Kayleigh Truong and Kaylynne Truong led the Zags in second quarter scoring, as they both scored four points with a combined shooting percentage of 42.8 percent from the field.   At halftime, Wyoming led the Zags, 31-30, after outscoring Gonzaga 17-15 in the second quarter.   After trading baskets to open the half, Wyoming increased its lead to seven with only four minutes remaining in the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter, Kayleigh Truong's six points helped the Zags cut Wyoming's lead down to 47-46. As a team, Gonzaga shot 37.5 percent from the field and 100 percent from the three in the third.  Gonzaga continued to battle in the fourth quarter as the team shot 56.3 percent from the field. Ejim led Gonzaga in the fourth quarter by scoring 12 points, including the final six points of the game for the Zags. Overall, Ejim shot 85.7 percent from the field in the fourth frame alone.   Overall, the Bulldogs shot 45.9 percent from the field and 25 percent from three. The Zags scored 44 points inside the paint, along with 14 points scored off of Wyoming's 11 turnovers. On the glass, GU grabbed 32 total rebounds, including 10 offensive.   Record: Gonzaga moves to 3-0 on the season as Wyoming falls to 0-2 on the year. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Gonzaga women's basketball team has defeated the Cowgirls, and the win improves GU's series record to 8-1.     Up next: The team travels to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament from Nov. 19-21.
