SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga men's basketball team eased to a 101-70 exhibition victory over Warner Pacific (Ore.) in their final tune-up before the regular season.
Five Zags finished in double-digit scoring led by
Drew Timme's game-high 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field. He added eight rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes. Malachi Smith added 16 points, going 7-of-11 from the field with six rebounds. Julian Strawther made three three-pointers and finished with 13 points, while Nolan Hickman and Efton Reid chipped in 11 and 10 points.
Gonzaga led for the entirety of the game, shooting 52.7 percent from the field, while holding the Knights to 38.2 percent. The Bulldogs outrebounded WPU 53-30, with 20 offensive boards. GU dished out 24 assists and forced 18 turnovers. The Zags used those turnovers to a 27-10 advantage in fastbreak points. Gonzaga outscored Warner Pacific in the paint, 56-36.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-0 lead after the first two minutes and led by as many as 30 points in the opening half. GU led 58-30 at halftime. The Zags had their largest lead of the night, 85-51, at the 8:45 mark of the second half.
Four Knights scored in double-figures led by Isaac Etter's 16 points. Darius Traylor, Thomas Miles and Dakota Reber all scored 10 points.
Gonzaga opens the regular season against North Florida Monday at 6 p.m. It will be GU's first-ever meeting against the Ospreys out of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The game will be broadcast on KHQ and ROOT Sports Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
