Zags Play to Scoreless Draw at No. 23 Santa Clara

First point in standings at SCU since 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's soccer team picked up a point in the West Coast Conference standings with a 0-0 finish at No. 23 Santa Clara Wednesday.

The Zags (9-3-5, 4-1-3 West Coast Conference) grabbed a point at Santa Clara for only the second time in program history and first since 2008. The draw moved GU into a tie for third with Portland in the league standings, and the Bulldogs and Pilots meet in the regular season finale Saturday in Spokane.

Santa Clara (9-6-3, 6-0-2 WCC) extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches and has not allowed a goal in the last 315 minutes of play. The Broncos outshot GU 24-7, with a 5-1 edge in shots on goal. SCU also took 11 of the 12 corner kicks in the match.

Gonzaga had its best opportunity in the 75th minute as Giana Riley crossed a ball into the box and Paige Alexander headed it low, forcing Santa Clara's Marlee Nicolos into a tough diving save.

The Broncos' Izzy D'Aquila entered the match leading the nation averaging 2.88 shots on goal per game, and she finished with three against GU. She was also second in the country in shots per game (5.53), and she took a game-high nine Wednesday.

The Zags' Lyza Bosselmann matched a season-high with four saves in the net.

Gonzaga closes the regular season Saturday against Portland (11-3-4, 5-3-0). The Pilots were upset at San Francisco Wednesday, 1-0. Senior Night at Luger Field starts at 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
