WBB Defeats Western Washington in Exhibition Game, 78-36

The Zags host Long Beach State next Thursday, Nov. 10, for the regular season opener

SPOKANE, Wash. – In their lone exhibition of the year, the Gonzaga women's basketball team rolled by Western Washington University, 78-36.

The Zags were led by senior Kayleigh Truong with a 17-point performance. Two other Bulldogs also scored in double figures, including graduate transfer Brynna Maxwell with 14 and junior Yvonne Ejim with 13. Ejim was just shy of a double double as she led the team in rebounds with nine.

From beyond the arc, GU made 10 three-pointers with Kayleigh Truong making five of those.

After two quarters, Gonzaga had a 30-22 lead and didn't allow any Vikings to score in double figures in the opening 20 minutes. The Zags scored 15 points in the first and second quarter, while allowing only nine and 13 points for WWU, respectively.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs went on a 16-0 run to propel themselves to a 48-24 lead midway through the frame. Overall, Gonzaga scored 32 points after shooting at 86 percent and only allowed six from the Vikings in the third.

Going in the fourth quarter up 62-28, the Zags kept the pressure on and only allowed four more points from Western. The Zags held the Vikings to a 25 shooting percentage and only a total of 14 points in the second half.

Defensively, GU held WWU to a 28.8 shooting percentage and only allowed one play to score in double figures. Overall, Gonzaga had 23 points come from off the bench and 28 from inside the paint.

Exhibition Success: With the 43-point win tonight, GU now has an average margin of victory of 48.4 points in its last five exhibition games.
