Women’s Golf Welcomes Two Signees

Zags ink two California natives

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's golf head coach Brad Rickel announced the signing of Esther Yoo and Vanessa Zhang to National Letters of Intent.
 
"We are very excited to for Esther Yoo and Vanessa Zhang to join us as our 2023 signing class," Rickel said. "Both signees are talented golfers in addition to being great students and will make great Zags. They join a long line of Californians on our team and both come from great families who are very supportive.  Esther and Vanessa both understand and appreciate how our program strives to balance golf, academics and service within the community.   We are looking for them to make an immediate impact on our team and are excited to grow and learn with them over their careers here at Gonzaga."
 
 
Esther Yoo | Porter Ranch, Calif. | Notre Dame High School
 
Yoo finished second at the Mission League Championship for Notre Dame High School and was a part of her school's 1st place CIF Southern Section team title.

 "Esther immediately saw Gonzaga for what a special place it is and has an energy that will be a great fit to our team.  She has been very accomplished in her junior golf career and we feel like the sky is the limit for her.  She has been very clear about her goals athletically and academically and we look forward to watching her accomplish them." 
 
 
Vanessa Zhang | Pasadena, Calif. | La Salle College Preparatory
 
Zhang comes to Gonzaga after concluding a stellar prep career with La Salle College Preparatory. Zhang was a four-time league MVP in the Camino Real and Dey Rey League and had eight top-10 finishes in TTC throughout her four years.

"Vanessa is passionate about tournament golf and is very much the kind of player who has been incredibly successful here. She arrives with a lot of tournament experience, coming from a competitive setting in Southern California and is eager to learn."
