No. 22/23 WBB Handles UC Davis, 73-55

SPOKANE, Wash. – The No. 22/23 Gonzaga women's basketball team defeated UC Davis, 73-55, in the Kennel on Sunday afternoon. The Zags stay undefeated at home this year as they move to 5-0 at home.
 
Five Zags scored in double figures, led by Brynna Maxwell with 19 and nine rebounds. Kaylynne Truong scored 15 and also dished out a team-high seven assists. Eliza Hollingsworth scored 13 in her first game back since Nov. 28. Calli Stokes also scored a career-high 11 points as Yvonne Ejim recorded 10. 
 
Gonzaga opened the first quarter by going on a 7-0 run to jump out to a 10-3 lead over the Aggies. UC Davis responded in the final few minutes to tie the game at 16-16 at the end of the quarter. Maxwell led the Zags with six points after shooting at 50 percent from the three-point line.
 
In the second quarter, Gonzaga went on a 13-0 run to gain an 11-point lead over the Aggies with three minutes remaining in the half. Hollingsworth led the scoring effort for the Bulldogs with seven points. She went 100 percent from the field and the free throw line during her five minutes of action.
 
At the half, Gonzaga had a 32-27 lead. Hollingsworth led the Zags with 10 points. The Bulldogs shot 47.8 percent in the first half and 55.6 percent from the three-point line. Overall, GU made five three-pointers in the first half with Maxwell making two of those.

Defensively, Gonzaga forced seven turnovers and grabbed four steals in the first half. UC Davis only shot 34.6 percent as the Bulldogs outrebounded the Aggies 16-14.

The Zags held UC Davis to no points in over three minutes during the third quarter to take a 44-36 lead midway through. Maxwell took over and scored 10 points and went 100 percent from the field and three-point line to help Gonzaga take a 50-41 lead at the end of the third.
 
Gonzaga kept its momentum into the fourth quarter and outscored UC Davis 23-14. Truong scored 12 in the fourth as she also went 100 percent from the field and free throw line. The Zags shot 50 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the three-point line to outscore UC Davis in the second half, 41-28, to secure the win.
 
Overall, Gonzaga shot 49 percent from the floor and 57.9 from beyond the arc. The Zags held UC Davis to a 42 percent shooting performance and only 29.2 percent from the three-point line. The Zags also outrebounded the Aggies, 32-30, and forced 19 turnovers.
 
Records: The Bulldogs improve to 9-2 on the year as UC Davis falls to 3-5. The Zags take a 4-1 overall record against the Aggies.
