No. 22/23 WBB Rallies Against San Diego, 70-59

The Zags now sit at 2-0 in the WCC

SPOKANE, Wash. –  The No. 22/23 Gonzaga women's basketball team battled against the University of San Diego and came out on top, 70-59.
 
Four Zags scored in double figures, led by Kaylynne Truong's 20 points. Yvonne Ejim and Brynna Maxwell both scored 13 with Eliza Hollingsworth also adding 10.
 
Gonzaga won the rebounding battle by grabbing 46 compared to USD's 36. Ejim grabbed a team-high nine with Hollingsworth also tallying eight.
 
In the first quarter, the Zags took a commanding 22-12 lead, led by Maxwell's seven points. The Zags shot 56.3 percent from the floor and held USD to only 33.3 percent. On the boards, GU outrebounded the Toreros 11-6.
 
Hollingsworth led the Zags in the second quarter with five points as GU had a 32-26 lead going into halftime.
 
The Bulldogs came out of halftime and scored 15 points. Maxwell led the way with six points. USD kept battling as the team scored 17 in the third quarter to cut its deficit to four points.
 
At the end of the third quarter, the Zags led 47-43 over USD. GU eventually took over the game with 23 points in the fourth. Truong went 3-for-4 from the floor to score 11 points in the final 10 minutes. McKayla Williams also scored six points in the final frame to propel the Zags to 2-0 in the WCC.
 
Overall, Gonzaga shot 37 percent and scored 18 points off second chance points. The Zags also grabbed five steals on the night and scored 24 points from inside the paint. Of their 46 rebounds, 19 of those were offensive as Hollingsworth grabbed.
 
Records: The Zags move to 11-2 on the year and 2-0 in the WCC. San Diego falls to 6-7 and 0-2 in the conference as this marks GU's 13th-straight victory over the Toreros. 

Brynna Maxwell continued her impressive performance from beyond the arc by scoring two tonight. She currently has made a three-pointer in every game this year.
