No. 23/25 WBB Falls to No. 2 Stanford, 84-63

The Zags only had seven players available in the ranked matchup

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Despite only have seven eligible players, the No. 23 Gonzaga women's basketball team battled the No.2-ranked Stanford Cardinal on the road, but fell 84-63.

Kaylynne Truong scored a career-high 22 points and Brynna Maxwell was the other double figure scorer with 19. Truong also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

In the first quarter, Truong and Maxwell led the way with six points apiece and the Zags only trailed by one point, 19-18. The Zags shot at 53.8 percent while holding the Cardinal to only 45.5 percent.

Kaylynne Truong went off in the second quarter with 14 points and three rebounds. The senior went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc as the Zags shot at 57.1 percent as a team from the three-point line. Stanford also shot well at the three in the second, going 7-for-9 as a team to take the 45-36 lead going into halftime.

In the first half alone, Kaylynne Truong scored 20 points and also grabbed three rebounds.

Maxwell led the Zags in the third quarter with 11 points as GU was outscored 21-125 in the third frame. Stanford took a 66-51 lead after shooting over 55 percent from the three-point line.

In the final quarter, Yvonne Ejim scored six points and grabbed three more rebounds for the Zags.

Overall, Gonzaga shot at 42 percent as the Cardinal shot 48 percent. Stanford went 15-for-28 from beyond the arc and four players score in double figures. The Zags grabbed six steals on the day and scored 18 points from inside the paint.

Records: The Zags move to 7-2 on the year and Stanford improves to 10-1 overall.

Gonzaga shot at a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line. This marked the second game in the row that the Zags shot at 100 percent, which ties the school record.
