No. 22/23 WBB Defeats Queens, 73-49

The Zags get to enjoy some time off before hosting UC Davis on Sunday, Dec. 11

SPOKANE, Wash. – Led by a 32-point performance from Yvonne Ejim, the No. 22/23 Gonzaga women's basketball team defeated Queens University of Charlotte, 73-49, in McCarthey on Tuesday night. Only seven Zags were available to suit up for the second-straight game.
 
Brynna Maxwell was the other Bulldog to score in double figures with 16 and went 4-for-7 from the three-point line. Ejim finished the night by going 13-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with Maxwell also grabbing six.
 
In the first quarter, Ejim led the way with eight points as Esther Little was right behind her with six points. The Royals shot at 57.1 percent to take a one-point lead after 10 minutes, 17-16.
 
The Bulldogs got things going in the second quarter as they outscored Queens, 21-6. Ejim went 5-for-5 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line to score 14 points. Maxwell also contributed five points after scoring GU's first three-pointer of the game.
 
By the end of the first half, Ejim had a team-high 22 points to give Gonzaga a 37-23 lead. Overall, the Zags were shooting at 68.2 percent and had 11 points off turnovers. On the boards, GU outrebounded Queens 14-8.
 
Gonzaga outscored Queens 21-7 in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 58-30. The Zags held Queens to 14.3 percent shooting from the field as Gonzaga shot an impressive 50 percent from the field and 60 percent from three in the quarter.

In the final quarter of the game, Maxwell scored five points and Muma dished out three assists in their time on the court. Ejim added four points and rebounds, along with two steals and a block.
 
Overall,  Zags shot 52.9 percent on the night and held the Royals to only 35.8 percent. The Zags also dominated the boards, outrebounding Queens 35-21.
 
Records: Gonzaga moves to 8-2 on the year as Queens drop to 4-5 overall.
 
Yvonne Ejim joined the 30-point club by scoring a career-high 32 points tonight. She is the first Zag to reach at least 30 points in a game since Jill Barta on Dec. 2, 2017.
