SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga track and field concluded the Washington State Combined Events Open and Invitational at The Podium on Saturday, highlighted by another historic showing in both sprints and distance.
In Friday's Open Competition, Ellie Armbruster continued her record-setting streak with new program bests in the 200 (26.66) and 400 (59.51). The freshman sprinter also holds the program record in the 600m, set at the Larry Wieczorek Invite in Iowa City two weeks prior.
Armbruster also contributed to the fastest indoor 4x400m finish in program history (4:04.38), along with Alyssa Bienfang, Emilee Groth, and Leighton Joy. Three Zag runners cracked the top ten in program history in the 800m, led by Bienfang's 2:16.12 finish (second-fastest all-time). Morgan Greene (2:16.29, third-fastest all-time) and Brittney Hansen (2:19.96, ninth-fastest all-time). Jillian Greene placed 10th in the Mile with a time of 5:01.52, placing sixth on the program's top ten list.
Saturday's Invitational action brought an event win for the women in the 3000m, with Alicia Anderson (9:43.47) and Liz Hogan (10:08.17) going 1-2 overall.
In Friday's men's distance races, Carp Mukai took third in the men's mile, crossing the finish line in 4:15.89. Evan Bates (8:15.56) took fifth in the 3000m, with Bryce Cerkowniak cracking the top ten with a ninth-place 8:23.27 finish. Bates and Mukai both were part of a Distance Medley Relay team that placed fourth overall with a time of 1:10.11.
