HOUSTON, Texas – The Zags battled hard, but came up short in a 4-0 loss to the University of Houston earlier today.
 
The event began with Houston's Elena Trencheva and Sophie Gertis defeating Gonzaga's Jenna Sloan and Frederikke Svarre 6-2 on court three in doubles. Houston eventually clinched the doubles point when Maria Dzemeshkevich and Laura Slisane earned the 6-4 victory over Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Tiegan Aitken in the No. 2 spot. After clinching the doubles point, Adrianna Sosnowska and Cate Broerman's court one match against Houston's Azul Pedemonti and Blanca Cortijo Parreno went unfinished.
 
The Zags continued into the singles competition, starting with Sloan's 6-0, 6-4 defeat against Pedemonti on court three. Houston expanded their lead when Slisane earned a victory in the No. 2 spot against Sosnowska 6-0, 6-4. On court four, Gertis helped clinch the match for Houston when she defeated Oda 6-4, 6-2.
 
All other matches went unfinished after Houston clinched the 4-0 victory, including the court one match where Broerman had just recently won Gonzaga's first set of the day, 7-5.
 
Up next: The Zags stay in Texas following today's win, as they face Texas State on Saturday, March 12th. This is the only time this season where the Gonzaga women's tennis team will have a match on three consecutive days. The team returns to the Stevens Center to face Washington State on Friday, March 18th at noon.
