WBB Advances to WCC Championship Game with 66-59 Win Over USF

This marks the second-straight season that the Zags take on BYU in the championship game and fifth overall

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – In the semifinal game of the West Coast Conference tournament, the Gonzaga women's basketball team took on the third seeded University of San Francisco and won 66-59.
 
Sophomore Yvonne Ejim recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Junior Kaylynne Truong led the team over with 16 points as senior Abby O'Connor also recorded double digits with 11.
 
Defensively, GU held USF to a 29 percent shooting performance and outrebounded the Dons 49-35.
 
In the first quarter, GU scored 17 points, led by redshirt senior Anamaria Virjoghe's and Ejim's four points. The Zags shot at 40 percent from the floor and grabbed 18 rebounds. USF only scored 10 points and shot at 28.6 percent in the opening quarter.
 
Going into the second quarter up 17-10, the Dons went on an 11-0 scoring run to give themselves a four-point lead with just under seven minutes left in the quarter.
 
The Zags responded quickly with four points as Ejim tied the game back up at 21-21 with over five minutes remaining. The Bulldogs ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 31-26 halftime lead.
 
At the half, O'Connor and Ejim led the way with six points apiece. The Bulldogs were shooting at 32.4 percent from the floor and 100 percent from the charity stripe. On the boards, GU was outrebounding the Dons 25-16 as the Bulldogs grabbed 11 offensive boards alone.
 
In the third quarter, Gonzaga scored 15 points, paced by Kaylynne Truong's five. They recorded a 46.2 percent shooting percentage in the frame and continued shooting at 100 percent from the free throw line.
 
The Zags took a 46-41 lead going into the final quarter of the game. The team came out on a 7-0 run with a clutch three-point bucket from O'Connor to give the Zags a 12-point lead. Gonzaga kept a double-digit lead for the majority of the final quarter after scoring 19 points in the final ten minutes.
 
Records: GU moves to 25-6 overall and 16-2 in the WCC. It also marks the 13th-straight win for Gonzaga over San Francisco as head coach Lisa Fortier moves to 17-2 overall against the Dons.
