SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's golf team is through the first day of the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate tournament at Sandpiper Golf Club. The event includes tournament host UCSB along with 84 total golfers from 14 different schools. It is a two-day affair, with two 18-hole rounds scheduled to be played on Monday, with the final 18-hole round to tee off on Tuesday.

Due to high winds on Monday afternoon, the second round was canceled before play began. It was determined that the round would not be made up and that the tournament would conclude on Tuesday with one final 18-hole round.
Heading into Tuesday's final round, Gonzaga is tied for fifth place at six-over (294). As a team, the Bulldogs combined for 52 pars, the third-most of the any team, adding 13 birdies and one eagle.

Jace Minni and Zach Stocker are leading the charge for the Zags after each shooting even-par (72) on the day. Minni's opening round included nine pars, three birdies and Gonzaga's lone eagle. On the course's par 5 fifth hole, Minni recorded one of the two made eagles on that hole for the day. For Stocker, nine pars and five birdies filled his scorecard in Round 1, including a stretch of three straight birdies on holes 12-14.

Holden Backes sits one stroke back of Minni and Stocker at one-over par (73) and in a tie for 13th place. His 13 pars were tied for second-most by an individual on the day, adding a pair of birdies along the way.

Matthew Ruel shot five-over (77) in the first round and sits in a tie for 45th, making 11 pars and two birdies in Round 1. Charlie Magruder (+10, 82) is in a tie for 70th with 11 holes of par-or-better scores in his first round.

CSU Northridge's Eirik Thomassen is the individual leader after Day 1, sitting at five-under par (67). Sacramento State's Ethan Davidson trails by two strokes at three-under (69). CSU Northridge holds the top spot on the team leaderboard heading into the final round after combining to shoot even-par (288) on Monday.

Golfers will tee off at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the final round of the tournament. Live scoring will be available at GoZags.com.
