STOCKTON, Calif. -- Earlier today, the Gonzaga women's tennis team had a competitive match at the University of the Pacific, but fell 4-3.
Pacific opened up the match by clinching the doubles competition. On court one, Pacific's MiaAngelina Ruja and Klara Kosan defeated Gonzaga's Jenna Sloan and Frederikke Svarre 6-3. In the No. 3 spot, Pacific's Megan Carmichael and Danielle Zamora earned a 6-3 win over Gonzaga's Adrianna Sosnowska and Tiegan Aitken. Since Pacific had already clinched the doubles point, Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Cate Broerman's court two doubles match against Pacific's Maile Brilhante and Alexis Sam went unfinished.
Pacific picked up three additional team points within the singles competition. In the No. 2 spot, Ruja claimed a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Sloan. Pacific's Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sosnowska on court three. Finally, Carmichael defeated Aitken on court six 6-4, 6-3.
Gonzaga earned three team points within the singles competition, including Broerman's 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 court one win over Kosan. In the No.4 spot, Svarre earned the comeback 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory against Zamora. On court six, Oda defeated Sam 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Up next: Following today's loss, the Gonzaga women's tennis team has a quick turnaround, as they face Saint Mary's on Saturday, April 16th at 1 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for 11 a.m., but the weather has pushed the match to 1 p.m. In their last four meetings, Gonzaga has a 3-1 record against the Gaels.
The Zags return to the Stevens Center for their last regular season match on Saturday, April 23rd at 11 am. Records: The loss moves the Zags' record on the season to 7-13 overall. For Pacific, their record improves to 9-9 on the year with the win. The Zags have a 7-1 overall record against the Tigers since Pacific joined the WCC in 2013.
