MORAGA, Calif. --  Earlier today, the Gonzaga women's tennis team had an away match against Saint Mary's and fell 5-2. Despite today's loss, the Zags have won three of their past five matchups against the Gaels. 

In the doubles competition, Saint Mary's Jordan Harris and Mariia Kozyreva defeated Frederikke Svarre and Jenna Sloan 6-3 on court one.

Gonzaga tied the doubles competition when Cate Broerman and Kianna Oda earned a 6-3 court two victory over SMC's Jocelyn Massey and Olivia Rook. In the No.3 spot, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Tiegan Aitken and Adrianna Sosnowska claimed the 6-4 win over Saint Mary's Lene Hovda and Julia Ronney. 

As the singles competition began and the Zags were up 1-0, Saint Mary's tied the match when Harris defeated Sosnowska 6-1, 6-0 on court three. SMC's earned another team point when Kozyreva earned the 6-1, 6-2 win over Broerman on court one.  

In spot No.4, Hovda extended the lead for SMC when she earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Svarre. Saint Mary's clinched the win when Massey defeated Oda 6-3, 6-1 on court five.  

Although Saint Mary's had clinched the team victory, the remaining singles matches were played out to completion.

On court six, Gonzaga earned their second team point of the match when Aitken earned the 6-1, 7-5 win over SMC's Gabriela Tevez. Today's matchup against Saint Mary's was concluded Sloan battled Ronney, but fell 1-6, 6-2, 1-6 on court two. 

Up next: The Gonzaga women's tennis team have their season finale against Portland University next Saturday, April 23rd at 11 a.m. in the Stevens Center. The Zags have won their last five matchups against Portland University and have a cumulative record of 11-12 against them.

Records: For Gonzaga, the team's record moves to 7-14 overall on the year with the loss. Saint Mary's record improves to 10-8 on the season with the win.
