SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team had their final home match of the season earlier today against Saint Mary's University, and earned a 4-1 victory as they celebrated Senior Day. This is the Zags' third win against the Gaels in their last five matchups and keeps GU undefeated at home this year.
Gonzaga earned an early doubles match victory on court three, as senior Theo McDonald and Tom Hann defeated SMC's Caelan Potts and Pelipe Rincon 6-4. In the No.1 spot, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Matthew Hollingworth and Arthus De La Bassetiere earned a competitive 7-6 victory over Saint Mary's James Watt and Boris Reckow. Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Oliver Andersson's court two doubles match against SMC's Mathis Moysan and Carlos Ramos went unfinished, as Gonzaga had already clinched the doubles point.
As the singles competition began, Gonzaga extended their lead when Hollingworth defeated Potts 6-1, 6-0 on court four. McDonald helped stretch Gonzaga's lead in his final home match as he claimed a 6-4, 6-1 court six win over Reckow.
Saint Mary's earned their first team point of the event when Moysan defeated Trkulja 6-4, 6-2 on court one. The match was clinched for Gonzaga when Bassetiere earned the 6-4, 6-2 court four win over SMC's Karlo Divkovic.
All other singles matches went unfinished, as Gonzaga had clinched the 4-1 victory.
Up next: Following today's win, the Gonzaga men's tennis team have their final regular season match at Portland University next Saturday, April 23rd at 10 am. The Zags defeated Portland for the first time in Gonzaga men's tennis history during the 2018-2019 season, when they earned the 4-1 victory at the Stevens Center on April 20th, 2019.

Records: For the Zags, their record on the season improves to 17-4 with the win. The loss moves Saint Mary's overall record to 5-14 on the year.
As the Zags finish their final home match of the 2021-22 season, multiple Gonzaga men's tennis records were broken, including the best home record with a perfect 11-0. This breaks the previous best home season of 5-0 in the 2019-20 season.
The Bulldogs also have earned a program record 17 dual wins, which breaks the previous record of 16 in the 2018-19 season with one more regular season match to go in head coach DJ Gurule's first season at the helm. The overall 17-4 (.809) record is also currently the best dual record in program history, ahead of the current 10-4 (.714) record set in 2019-20.
