SPOKANE, Wash. – Earlier today, the Gonzaga women's tennis team faced Loyola Marymount University and fell 4-0. With the loss, the Zags are now 6-4 in their last 10 matches against LMU.
Today's match began with a competitive doubles play, as Gonzaga's Jenna Sloan and Frederikke Svarre claimed a dominate 6-1 win over LMU's Veronika Miroshniche and Stefania Rogozinska on court two.
In the No.1 spot, LMU tied the doubles competition when Isabella Tcherkes-Za and Wiktoria Rutowska earned a 6-2 victory over Gonzaga's Cate Broerman and Kianna Oda. In the final doubles match, LMU clinched the first team point of the event when Eva Marie Voracek and Ulyana Shirokova defeated Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken and Adrianna Sosnowska 6-4 on court three.
As the singles competition began, LMU's lead increased when Miroshniche claimed the 6-0, 6-4 court one victory over Broerman. Sloan competed in the No. 2 court and fell 6-1, 6-1, to Voracek. Sosnowska played on court three and fell 6-1 in her first set and battle back in the second, but fell 7-6 to Rutoswka, which clinched the match for the Lions.
All other singles matches went unfinished, as LMU had clinched the win.
Up next: The Gonzaga women's tennis team has an away match next against Pacific on Friday, April 15 at 1 p.m. In their last seven meetings, the Zags are 7-0 against Pacific and have only allowed a single team point in the past four matchups.
Gonzaga returns to the Stevens Center to face Portland University on Saturday, April 23, in what will be the final home match of the season.
