Nembhard Drafted 31st by Indiana Pacers

Fifth time two Zags selected in same draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Former Gonzaga standout Andrew Nembhard was selected as the 31st pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers Thursday. He was the first selection in the second round.

Nembhard was the second Gonzaga player taken in the draft Thursday. Earlier in the draft, Chet Holmgren was selected second by the Oklahoma City Thunder. It's only the fifth time that two Zags were selected in the same NBA Draft. Last year, Jalen Suggs was drafted fifth by the Orlando Magic, Corey Kispert was the 15th pick by the Washington Wizards and Filip Petrusev was the 50th pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2019, Rui Hachimura was drafted ninth by the Washington Wizards, before Brandon Clarke was selected 21st by the Oklahoma City Thunder. In 2017, Zach Collins was taken by the Sacramento Kings with the 10th overall pick, before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, and Nigel Williams-Goss was selected 55th by the Utah Jazz. Howard Burford (11th round, 171st pick Portland Trail Blazers) and Bill Quigg (15th round, 219th pick, San Diego Rockets) were the only other Bulldogs to achieve the feat in 1971.

After transferring to GU from Florida, Nembhard has been vital to the backcourt success the Zags have had over the last two seasons. The Bulldogs went 59-5 in his appearances in a Gonzaga uniform. He finished his collegiate career with 1,308 points, 691 assists and 162 steals. He topped the West Coast Conference in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. The Aurora, Ont., native, was seventh in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.97) and 14th in assists per game (5.8).

Nembhard was a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is presented annually to the country's top point guard. This past season, he was named First Team All-Conference, All-District, and to the WCC All-Tournament Team. Nembhard was also named the Empire Classic Most Outstanding Player, the Colangelo Classic Player of the Game, and the Most Outstanding Player at the 2022 WCC Tournament.

Nembhard is the 29th GU player selected in the NBA Draft all-time, and the 17th under Few.
