SPOKANE, Wash. — Following a shutdown performance that helped Gonzaga baseball complete a dramatic elimination-round comeback against Wright State on Saturday, RHP Owen Wild was one of two pitchers named to the All-Blacksburg Region team, voted on my members of the media.
Entering the game with GU down 9-4 in the second, Wild threw 6 ⅓ scoreless innings to put the Zags in position to make the comeback and stay alive in the regional, making it 11 straight games that GU has won with him appearing on the mound. He struck out seven in that span, walking six while only being tagged for three hits.
"I think the biggest thing was us just trusting each other and trusting that we were still in the game, even though we were down by a couple of runs when I came in," said Wild postgame. "Obviously there are position players trusting me to try to keep us in the game, and then me trusting the position players that they're going to bring the game back where it needed to be. And they got that job done."
Wild, who was named to the All-WCC honorable mention list and picked up All-WCC Tournament honors last weekend, was the Zags' lone representative on the list. GU was eliminated from the postseason on Sunday when they fell in a rematch with Columbia, bringing an end to one of GU's most successful seasons in recent memory.
