Apodaca and McGee Named Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-Americans

First time two Zags have made the list in same season since 2002

SPOKANE, Wash.— Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced its All-America Freshman Team Wednesday, with Gonzaga freshmen Enzo Apodaca and Cade McGee both making the cut to make it back-to-back years that a Zags player is on the list and the first time since 2002 that two have made it in the same year.

McGee and Apodaca are the third and fourth GU players to be named Freshman All-American by the outlet since Ernie Yake picked up the honor in 2018. Since 2000, a total of 10 Zags players have been named to the list.

Following a season in which he batted .298 and slammed a team-high 10 home runs to go with 62 hits and 31 RBI, McGee was named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and made the league's Honorable Mention list. He finished the year with 15 doubles, third-most on the team. He was one of eight third basemen to earn a spot on the list.

One of 15 outfielders on the All-America team, Apodaca also picked up All-WCC Honorable Mention honors after a season where he was one of only two players to appear in every game for GU. Batting leadoff and holding it down in center field, he finished the season with a team-high 45 RBI and 19 doubles on a team-high 67 hits, batting .279 on the year with just one error to his name.
