LOS ANGELES — RHP Trystan Vrieling and RHP Will Kempner became the second and third Gonzaga pitchers to be taken in the first 150 picks of the 2022 MLB Draft on Sunday, when the New York Yankees selected Vrieling in the third round with the 100th overall pick and the San Francisco Giants selected Kempner in the third round with the 106th overall pick. Brody Jessee became the fourth soon after, with the Cincinnati Reds taking him in the 10th with the 303rd overall pick.
Vrieling was a two-time WCC Pitcher of the Week and Second-Team All-WCC honoree after a season that saw him finish in the Top 40 in the naiton in strikeouts (107). He was second on the team in innings pitched (80.2) over 15 starts for the Zags.
Despite an injury that kept him out of action for part of the regular season, Kempner held opponents scoreless in his four appearances back over 17.1 innings, allowing just eight hits in that span. He finished the season with a WCC Pitcher of the Week honor as well as a 3.0 ERA and 1.28 WHIP to go with 48 K's over 36 total IP.
Jessee was a crucial reliever for the Zags in 2022, appearing in 18 games and striking out 48 over 35.1 innings of work while accumulating a 4-3 record in the process.

Gabriel Hughes became the highest-drafted Zag ever when the Rockies selected him with the 10th overall pick.
