SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's soccer and Oregon played to a 2-2 draw in front of a large crowd at Luger Field Saturday. In the Zags' 2022 home opener, GU scored the tying goal in the 83
rd minute.
The Bulldogs (0-1-2) nearly scored the winning goal in the closing seconds, but Oregon's Leah Freeman made a key save to hold on to the draw.
Gonzaga owned 55 percent of the possession in the game and outshot the Ducks 22-6, with a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Zags had 63 percent of their possession on the attacking side of the field. GU also had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Oregon's (1-0-2) Ajanae Respass opened the scoring in the 16
th minute off a long assist from Trinity Morales. Respass brought in the lengthy pass and drove a low shot into the net.
In the 22
nd minute,
Erin Healy kicked in a rebound from a saved shot that was taken by
Sophia Braun. It was Healy's 16
th career goal.
Respass scored her third goal of the season just seconds into the second half. Livvy Moore was credited with the assist.
After several close chances in the second half, the Bulldogs'
Lauren Elwer score the tying goal in the 83
rd minute. Healy touched a ball to
Maddie Kemp who then passed it to Elwer for the goal. Elwer's ninth career goal was strike to the near post.
Four of Healy's game-high five shots were on goal. Elwer and
Hannah Gray both took four shots. Freeman finished the match with a career-high 10 saves for Oregon, while
Lyza Bosselmann made four saves for GU.
