SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team stayed undefeated at home after a 2-0 win over UC San Diego. The Zags now move to 3-5 overall on the year with all three wins coming from Luger Field.
In the first half, the Zags scored first with a goal from
Devin Slingsby. The ball was crossed to
Demitrius Kigeya via
Frankie Ljucovic, and it was quickly passed to Slingsby who immediately shot the ball and found the back of the net in the 32nd minute.
Overall, the Bulldogs outshot the Tritons 8-2 overall in the first 45 minutes with
Wylie Trujillo and Kigeya leading the way with two each. The Zags had four of those shots on goal and allowed no on goal shots from UC San Diego.
Going into the second half with a 1-0 lead, the Zags continued to pressure UC San Diego with 11 more shots with four of those on goal.
In the 68th minute,
Victor Gadea increased GU's lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by
Robbie Mora. This marked his first career goal as a Zag and Mora's second assist on the year.
Overall, the Zags outshot the Tritons 19-6 with nine of those being on goal for the Bulldogs. Gadea led the way with five shots on the night. Defensively, GU only allowed three shots on goal as
Johan Garibay earned his second shutout of the year with three saves on the night.
Records: The Zags handed the Tritons their second loss of the season as they fall to 4-2-2 on the year. GU also now holds a 1-0 record against UC San Diego in program history.
Gonzaga improves to 3-5-0 on the year and remains undefeated at home. The 3-0 start at home for the Bulldogs is also the best start at home for GU since 2016 as that squad started the season 4-0 at home.
